Case Study: Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon AMG (G63) — Front Brake Pad Replacement

Service: Brake Pad Replacement

Vehicle: Mercedes-Benz G-Class (AMG G63)

Location: AutoDoctor Garage

Category: Brakes & Suspension

The Challenge

Our client arrived at AutoDoctor with their Mercedes G-Wagon AMG G63 reporting a squealing noise when braking and a noticeably reduced braking response, especially at higher speeds. Given the size and weight of the G-Wagon, worn brake components are a serious safety concern — this vehicle needed a proper inspection and immediate attention before it went back out on the road.

Our Diagnosis

Our technicians lifted the vehicle on our two-post hoist for a full undercarriage inspection. On close examination, we found:

  • Front brake pads worn well below the safe minimum thickness
  • Early signs of brake dust buildup affecting the caliper’s red AMG brake calipers
  • Rotors still within usable spec, but close to the point requiring resurfacing

This confirmed that a brake pad replacement was needed immediately to restore safe stopping performance.

The Work We Performed

  1. Vehicle lift & inspection — G-Wagon raised safely on our two-post lift for full access to the front axle and brake assembly.
  2. Wheel & caliper removal — Front wheels removed, calipers carefully detached to access the pad carrier.
  3. Old pad removal — Worn-out front pads removed and inspected for wear pattern.
  4. New pad installation — High-performance EBC brake pads installed, matched to the G63’s AMG braking system for consistent stopping power and reduced brake dust.
  5. Caliper & rotor check — Calipers cleaned, lubricated, and reassembled; rotor surface inspected to confirm smooth, even contact with the new pads.
  6. Road test — Vehicle test-driven to confirm smooth, quiet, and responsive braking before handover.

The Result

The G-Wagon left AutoDoctor with:

  • Restored, responsive braking performance
  • Elimination of the squealing noise
  • Peace of mind for a vehicle that demands the highest safety standards

Why This Matters

The Mercedes G-Wagon is a heavy, high-performance SUV its braking system works harder than most vehicles on the road. Ignoring early warning signs like squealing or a soft brake pedal can lead to reduced stopping power exactly when it’s needed most. Regular brake inspections every 10,000–15,000 km help catch wear before it becomes a safety issue.

At AutoDoctor, we specialize in luxury and performance vehicle servicing, including Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Audi, and more. Every brake job is backed by quality parts and a full road test before your car leaves our garage.
